Career Solo Grass Cutter
Business Training Seminar

...presented by Ed Ryder

* * *

There are some people in the grass cutting business who have struggled for years to build up a worthwhile, profitable lawn service. It shouldn't take that long though. I think it can be done in the first year - even as quickly as 3 months.

How?

Basically, all it takes is smart marketing, a solid understanding of the business, and sustained effort.

That sounds fairly simple, doesn't it? But there will be many people this year who will stumble. They will enter the business, spend thousands on a truck and equipment, and then for some - the success they sought will elude them. They might even quit after their first year. It happens all the time.

It's an interesting problem. I've thought a lot about how I can use my experience and skills to help the new guy, and I have come up with something unusual...

One of the main areas of struggle for the new lawn business entrepreneur is coming up with the right marketing formula. What I see all the time are flyers saying:

- grass cutting -
- reasonable prices -
- senior citizen discounts -
- insured -
- free estimates -

This is the standard formula that nearly everybody uses. I think copying the competition is a mistake, and I think emphasizing price is a mistake. But most self-employed grass cutters can't come up with anything else. Truly it is difficult to come up with grand slam advertising pieces that stand apart. And so this is one of the things I will be helping my seminar attendees with.

In fact, I'm going to make it quite easy. On the day of the seminar, I'll have a set of ads with postcard and flyer designs on display. In cooperation with JNolan Design, a professional design firm, I've put together this collection of well-written ads. If anyone likes the material, we'll customize those ads for you by inserting your name, phone number and service area. A CD will be burned and you will then be able to take that CD to a printer like Kinko's or whoever you choose, and have your marketing pieces printed.

I understand that those new to the business may not be loaded full of cash. So I have tried to make this gig really affordable so that most people will be in a position to take advantage of it.

The seminar is: $149.

There is a charge for the CD: $125 plus 6% tax for PA residents.

The CD purchase is optional. But this would be good material to have, and frankly you could not get this kind of ad work any place else for anywhere near this price. So it represents a very good value.

The pre-composed advertising pieces have been designed with an emphasis on making "solo" an advantage in comparison to high volume lawn cutting services. And the pieces try to convey an intelligent, personal touch, since being a career solo grass cutter is a personal service. It's not the typical shallow material. The idea is to be different - to stand out. Jim Nolan and I have created marketing pieces that are going to appeal to the affluent homeowner. And we've come up with some very smart ways to establish a beach-head in a neighborhood and then begin poaching the competition - without using price as the lure. I think everyone attending will be very impressed and happy to have this powerful material available to them.

Now, about the seminar...

There actually is a great wealth of information that can be found about the grass cutting business on the internet, yet there exists some "information gaps" ...very important information that you need to know if you are going to enter this business.

And once this information is revealed, you will realize that your money was well spent and you'll be glad you attended.

Just consider what is at stake - you are building the foundation of your service. If you don't know what you're doing, if you screw up, right from the beginning you can sabotage your chances of success. Bad decisions in year number 1 will affect your bank account, your morale, and whether you will last in this business. And if you are going to be spending $5000, $10,000, $15,000 or whatever to get into this business, then doesn't it make sense to spend a small amount on education? An expense which is tax deductible?

Another thing to consider is if you get just one bright idea out of this seminar that helps you to get or retain just one customer, then it all becomes completely worth it.

I'm excited about offering this combination of training and marketing assistance. I'm excited about being in a position to help elevate the professionalism of those new to the business. And I'm excited about being able to pass along my knowledge to help others create wealth.

March 11th is the date of the first seminar, and to kick it off I'm doing something special...

If the seminar sells out - that's 24 attendees - then I'll hold a drawing right there to give away a brand new Kawasaki KGT27A weedwacker. I think Kawasaki weedwackers are the best for their light weight, power and durability. It's a $300 weedwacker with a 26.3 cc engine. It's got plenty of power. And it will last you for years.

Key Features of the Kawasaki Professional String Trimmer
  • Low-noise, low-vibration design.
  • Long run times on each tank of gas.
  • Proven Kawasaki 2-cycle engine.
  • Large diameter main tube for strength and rigidity.
  • Low-tone muffler, sintered clutch/bevel gear module.
  • Conveniently located operator controls.
  • Large cover for blade attachment and full cover engine shroud.
  • Lifetime warranty on drive shaft and electronic ignition.

The Kawasaki KGT27A is a top of the line piece of equipment. And whoever wins it is going to be thrilled I'm sure.

The rules of this give-away are simple: There must be 24 attendees in the March 11th seminar. If it sells out and all 24 seats at the seminar are taken, then everyone will have a 1 in 24 chance of taking this fine piece of equipment home. We'll do the drawing. It will be fair. And we'll have a winner.
